About These Projects

Project Descriptions

The City of Fife is undertaking multiple projects in the vicinity of 20th Street E.

20th Street E Multimodal Improvements: Fife Aquatic Center to the Sheffield Trail

This project will improve the segment of 20th St that includes Fife Elementary, Fife High, STEAM Center, and Fife Aquatic Center. It will connect to adjacent segments of 20th St that provide access to services and recreational opportunities, improving mobility, safety, access, road capacity and pavement.

Key improvements include:

  • A shared use path constructed along the south side of the street, providing a user-friendly facility for pedestrians and cyclists. It will have curb and planter strip, separating users from traffic.

  • Construction of a sidewalk separated with a curb and planter strip on the north side. This will fill multiple gaps in the existing sidewalk network.

  • Improving the intersection at 62nd Ave E including a new traffic control signal

  • Improving safety and mobility at driveways and intersections by shortening pedestrian crossing distances, tightening curb radii, and upgrading ADA facilities.

  • Completion of a missing segments of center turn lane, which will reduce vehicle blocking issues and collisions.

  • Fixing physical deficiencies by resurfacing the roadway, stabilizing subgrade, upgrading storm water systems, replacing the water main, and adding lighting.

  • Undergrounding of existing overhead power distribution and communication lines. The transmission power lines will remain.

  • Reducing the speed limit along 20th Street E to 30 MPH.

62nd Avenue E Multimodal Improvements

This project is the funded by a Safe Routes to School grant for improvements to 62nd Ave E between 20th St E and Valley Ave E.

Improvements on 62nd Ave E will include:

  • Completing sidewalk on the west side of the road

  • Narrowing the road to two lanes, adding bike lanes on both sides, and adding a raised crosswalk mid-way between 20th St E and Valley Ave

  • Installing lighting along the corridor.

Interurban Trail Extension to Puyallup

The City of Fife received funding from the 2023-25 Transportation Budget through the Move Ahead Washington (MAWA) – Tier Pedestrian & Bicycle program to improve safety and mobility along 20th Street E near the existing Interurban Trail trailhead. This segment also includes access to the Fife Library.

Key Improvements Include:

  • Reconstruction of the North side of 20th Street E including new curb and gutter, landscape planter, street lighting, upgrading stormwater system, and utility undergrounding.

  • Construction of new wide sidewalk on the North side of 20th Street E that ties into existing sidewalk at the northwest corner of the 70th Avenue E intersection.
